The climate in Sozopol is temperate but important is the influence of Black sea and the Mediterranean wind. The sun shining annually reaches 2100 – 2200 hours and is good for heliotherapy from march until October.
The full length of the coast line of Sozopol is 51 km. 17.1 km of those are beaches covered with fine golden sand. Between the numerous beaches one will find rock massifs that enhance the beauty of the coast line in a special way.
On the territory of Sozopol there are three small islands situated not far from the city – “The snake island” also called “Saint Tomas”, “Saint Ivan” and “Saint Stefan” islands. Very picturesque are the dunes of the beaches Alepu, Kavacite and Gerena with their interesting shapes and vegetation.
The Bulgarian Black sea is famous also with it’s various and specific flora. A special type of wild cactus grows only on the Snake Island near Sozopol. One of a kind is as well the wild forest that grows alongside the river Ropotamo that have kept a liana like vegetation called Longoz. Those plants give the name of the forest – Longoza. There you could find water-lily as well as marsh snowdrop and many other rare species.
